Awesome antics land trashed golfer in a hole

What’s worse than getting your ball stuck in a bunker while playing golf? How about getting your head stuck in a bin, like Dave Sayers.

The 49-year-old – from Cross Heath, Newcastle-under-Lyme – who plays off a handicap of nine, sparked hysterics when he used his head to achieve a rubbish hole-in-one.

The father-of-two was filmed wearing a pair of brightly-coloured trousers from Royal & Awesome – which uses the tagline ‘for the pars and the bars’, although, in this instance, clearly too much emphasis was placed on the bars – with his head locked firmly in place in a bin, lying on the ground and surrounded by a laughing crowd.

Sayers’ rubbish performance occurred while playing in a 24-hour charity golf event for Approach Staffordshire, an Alzheimer’s organisation, at Wolstanton GC, Staffordshire.

Sayers, a self-employed businessman, told the Stoke Sentinel: “We were coming to the end of the day and I had been losing it a bit with a few bad shots – we’d all had a few beers.

“I said, ‘I’m going to bin these clubs’, but they wouldn’t fit. I decided to go a step further. I went to put my head in the bin, but then I couldn’t get it out.

“I was stuck like that for about 10 minutes until someone who had been carrying Vaseline, to avoid sores during the golf day, helped get my head out.”
