The whole point of golf is to get the ball into the hole in the fewest number of shots as possible (it’s also about getting out on the course with your mates & having a good time!) but golf purists would argue that getting the ball in the hole is the number one aim. So, hole-in-ones are the holy grail of golf, right?
This blog post shares some of our favourite hole-in-ones. We hope you enjoy & if you have ever got an ‘ace’ let us know about it in the comments below.
15-handicapper, Aidan Daly, scored his ace on the 110-yard, par-three 16th at Lambeg GC wearing his Old Tom’s Trews.
He said: “I had been stuffing with club selection at this hole for a number of weeks, and said this to my playing partner. There wasn’t much wind and I had just come off a disastrous hole at 15, so I thought a smooth pitching wedge should put me somewhere on the green.
“I set up and swung, just as I’d hoped, and, when the ball was in the air, I knew it was going to be close. It pitched nicely, just to the right of the hole, bounced once, and then, in it went.
“I shouted all over the place. There were two other players on the 17th tee, who watched the shot all the way, and they started cheering too. It’s amazing to think that hitting a small ball into a hole in the ground can give you so much pleasure!”
We hear you Aidan. Golf is a strange sport when you put it like that!

Above: Darren Bronse Chisholm scored a ‘1’ whilst rocking a pair of red, white and blue Plaid a Blinder golf trews.
