Pleasington golfer flies to the recuse

A lady club captain will be whizzing around Lancashire for charity, after pledging to play one hole of golf on 18 different courses in one day.

Susan Caton, 47, who plays off four, will tee off the event in an unmissable Royal & Awesome outfit, on May 29, at Oak Royal GC. She aims to play her last hole before 7pm at her home club, Pleasington, in Blackburn.

The club’s lady captain also hopes to share the experience with one person from each club on her route – which is published on her website – by extending an open invitation for golfers to play alongside her.

And onlookers will have no trouble guessing Caton’s whereabouts on the day as she’ll don a funky flat cap and spectacular pair of golf trousers from Scotland’s brightest golf clothing brand, Royal Awesome, which will help support the event.

Caton has chosen to donate the raised funds to North West Air Ambulance Charity which, for more than 15 years, has provided rapid pre-hospital care via its three helicopters, which fly 365 days a year with doctors and paramedics on board to provide emergency medical treatment.

She said: “It costs North West Air Ambulance charity £6m a year to operate and maintain its three helicopters, and each one costs £3.50 per minute on fuel.

“To rescue a golfer in distress from Pleasington GC would cost the charity more than £1,500 which is why we’ve set that as our initial target.

“To reach our target would be fantastic but to go over it would mean the world to me. Just knowing that our efforts could cover the costs of potentially saving the life of just one East Lancashire golfer would make the whole event worthwhile.”

Royal & Awesome brand director Graeme Smeaton added: “Royal & Awesome is always on the look-out to help a worthy cause. We’re thrilled that we can support Susan in her efforts to raise money for the vital work conducted by the North West Air Ambulance.”
