Roll Up! Prove yourself with a slice of the action at British Bread Golf Open

Golfers are being encouraged to use their loaf and take on a new role to raise dough for charity when the British Bread Golf Open takes place on the River Thames at Kingston, Surrey, in November.

The event, supported by Royal & Awesome, Scotland’s brightest and funkiest golf clothing brand, sees members of the public – and the occasional celebrity – donate £5 to charity to attempt to hit three dough balls into a floating golf hole, with the title of World Bread Golf champion up for grabs.

The unique event takes place on Sunday, November 23, and all monies raised will go towards the International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF), with event officials all kitted out in Royal & Awesome outfits.

The Scottish company’s brand director, Graeme Smeaton, said: “We’re always keen to involve Royal & Awesome with offbeat charitable golf projects – and they don’t come much more unusual than firing dough balls at a golf hole in the Thames.

“It’s not beyond the realms of possibility to hear onlookers yelling, in traditional US golf style, ‘get in the whole-meal!’, but it does put a lie to the oft-quoted golfing adage that you ‘Drive for show, and putt for dough’…”

Robin Hutchinson, part of the event’s organising team from State of Seething and chair of the charity Creative Youth, organisers of IYAF, added: “This is the game of champions, as the international golf set come to Kingston to take part in one of the great sporting challenges.

“You don’t have to be a professional to participate; it’s open to anyone to swing a club and have some fun. We are proud to host this prestigious tournament although there are thoughts to take it to Sandwich next year.”

Royal & Awesome’s range of eye-catching golf trousers, shorts and hats is ‘perfect for the pars and the bars’. The brand also boasts selection of plus-twos as well as women’s trousers, shorts and skorts in dazzling designs, complemented by a range of men’s and women’s shirts, socks and belts.

The ‘Awesomes’ – the brand’s range of brightly designed golf trousers – build on the wonderful heritage and history of golf in Scotland by adding a whole lot of fun and colour, and are guaranteed to make an impact on the course, the clubhouse or the corporate jolly.

All of its ‘bottoms’ come with a free golf tool/bottle opener, which is a nod to the strap line of ‘for the pars and the bars’.

Royal & Awesome also has a huge following on social media, with nearly 150,000 Facebook fans and approaching 2,000 on Twitter, thanks in part to the recent launch of the ‘Tricky Series’ featuring trick-shot specialist Rob Brown, which has been viewed by more 25,000 people.

The British Bread Golf Open, supported by Royal & Awesome, takes place on Sunday, November 23, from 1-3pm, on the River Thames at Kingston, in O’Mahony Square, by Woody’s Bar (Postcode KT1 1HH). All are welcome.
